On modern bicycles, the thru-axle system has replaced the old quick-release style method of wheel attachment. Today’s bike racks automatically accommodate the new system, so mounting an older bike requires buying an expensive rack accessory. We wanted to create an inexpensive method of transporting older bicycles. This simple, affordable bike rack is modeled after Yakima’s original fork-mount bike carrier. Our design adapts to all axle types and is simple to manufacture using laser-cut steel and could sell for 50% less than the tray-style option from major brands. The prototype shown here uses an off-the-shelf 15x100mm Kuat adapter. Kudos to Greg at Diversified for providing invaluable design input.
